New to the Forum?
Some first-time users may find using the Forum to be a bit confusing. This brief guide will take you step-by-step through the process of setting up an account, perusing the forum, and making your first post!
Create an Account
To reach the Forum, click on the "Enter Forum" button above. Once inside, you’ll want to either log in if you already have an account, or register if you’re new to the Forum. It’s easy to create a new account. Simply click on the word “register” in the sentence that reads, “Welcome, Guest. Please login or register" which you'll find directly beneath the Wild Birds & Gardens logo.
This will bring you to the Registration Agreement page, which outlines the policies in place for using the Forum. Beneath it at the bottom of the page is a blue box that reads, “I accept the terms of the agreement.” Click on this box to proceed.
The next page displays the Registration Form, where you’ll input your required information. Type in a Username, the name which you’ll go by in the Forum. In the next box, input your email address. If you’d like people to have the ability to email you outside of the Forum, check the “Allow users to email me” box, otherwise leave it unchecked. In the “Choose password” box, select a password that would be hard to guess but easily remembered by you. Carefully retype this password in the “Verify password” box to make sure you entered it correctly the first time.
Finally, at the bottom of the page is the Verification area. This step is to prevent automated “bots” from accessing the Forum and submitting spam. Simply type in the letters you see displayed in the scrambled graphic. If you have difficulty making out the letters, click on the words “Listen to the letters” below the scrambled graphic to hear each letter read aloud. Then answer the simple question at the bottom and click the “Register” box. Voila! You’re done!
Using the Forum
Once you’ve created an account, you have full access to the Forum. Click on any of the orange titles to enter an area that interests you. Want to read about Hummingbirds? Click on the orange “Hummingbirds” link to see what others have posted about our tiny feathered friends. Just click on one of the posts you’ll find in this area to read it. If you’d like to respond to the post, click on the "Reply" button and type your response in the white box. (You need to be logged in to see the Reply button.) New members will have to go through a verification process like you did when signing up, but only for the first few posts. Finally hit the "Post" button to add your thoughts to the discussion.
To create a new topic of conversation, click on the orange "Home" button to take you to the top of the Forum. Select the topic you’d like to post something in, such as “Owls” or “Raptors” by clicking on the orange title text. Click on the “New Topic” button, type a subject in the subject box, and share your thoughts in the big white box, then hit the “Post” button.
